WATCH! Mullingar in Euro16 alternative Irish anthem Je T'aime Irlande!

Here it is! The much anticipated alternative Euro ‘16 anthem, Je T’aime Irlande!

Shane MacGowan, comedian Joe Rooney, aka Fr Damo, and some of Mullingar’s finest musicians feature in the chorus, recorded in Mullingar Arts Centre.

Penned and produced by Longford band Cronin who collaborated with Rooney for the track, Mullingar bands Fallen Lights, The Business, Glenn McMahon, aka Zach Boone, Frank Byrne from Ska’s Good Gravy, Conor McAuley of Arrow in the Sky, Paulie Martin, Sugar Ray, Count Tornado, and John Daly’s bar staff, are some of the local faces who donned the green jersey for the song.

While Longford’s Brave Giant and White Chalk’s Kevin Farrell, as well as Sligo’s Rackhouse Pilfer and Bray’s Big September all travelled to Mullingar for the recording process.

Described by Johnny Cronin as a Séan O’Riada version Serge Gainsbourg’s Je T’aime Moi Non Plus:

“It’s a comedy song in the tradition of Dermot Morgan’s Thank You Very Much Mr Eastwood.

"It’s a dream to do a Serge Gainsbourg song. People wanted to show their love for Ireland.”

Cronin had a hit the last time Ireland were on their way to the European Championships with The Rockier Road to Poland. The song was picked up as the title track for Hardy Bucks The Movie.

Now the Mullingar based band look set to score a double!

“We’d love it (Je T’aime) to be banned by the Vatican again!”
