The late Valerie Armstrong.

Westmeath mother dies after being struck by motorbike

A mother of three originally from Rochfortbridge died last night from injuries sustained in a collision with a scrambler motorbike in a Belfast park on Tuesday.

According to reports, 35 year old Valerie Armstrong (nee Palmer) was walking her dog in West Belfast's Colin Glen Forest Park when she was struck by the motorbike at around 6pm on Tuesday.

In a tweet posted last night, the PSNI said that Mrs Armstrong passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs Armstrong is survived by her husband of 11 years, Seamus. The couple had three children Dylan (10), Lucy (7) and Sophie-Belle (5).

Fr Vincent Cushnahan from the Church of the Nativity in Poleglass has paid tribute to the young mother and her family, who have donated her organs.

"Valerie continues, despite her untimely and tragic death, to be generous to people who have never met her and they will have lifesaving treatment from her organs that will allow them to have a lease in life she lost.

"Even in desperate sadness there will be life and generosity. Valerie and her family are very happy for people to receive her organs."

At a sitting of Belfast Magistrates earlier today, a 17 year boy was charged with causing the death of Mrs Armstrong. He has also been charged with driving without insurance. The youth has been remanded until August 18.

A 15 year old boy was also arrested in connection with the incident, but was subsequently released on bail.

Mrs Armstrong worked in Cafe Vaudeville, a restaurant and bar in the centre of Belfast. On the business's Facebook page her former colleagues said that the Rochfortbridge native "will forever be in our thoughts and prayers".

"The outpouring of shock, love and sympathy we have received from past and present staff, customers and well wishers is a testament to the wonderful person, wife and mother you were."
