The film starred the British actress Julie Christie, and Clonhugh House at Ballinafid was used for the filming, while the operations base for the crew was at Wilson’s Hospital.

The Church of Ireland in Killucan also featured in the film.

William Trevor was born in Mitchelstown in Co Cork in 1928, and educated at Trinity College.

He was famed for many of his works but especially, The Ballroom of Romance which was also turned into a film.

He was also a talented wood sculptor.

He lived for most of his life in Britain.
