Lynn Singers star in charity performance this week

An evening of contemporary choral and chamber music featuring The Lynn Singers and RTÉ ConTempo Quartet takes place at St Paul's Church, on the Delvin Road, Mullingar, this Friday, November 25.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and is in support of the Longford Westmeath Friends of Mullingar General Hospital and the MRI Scanner Fund.

The RTÉ ConTempo Quartet is Ireland’s national television and radio broadcaster’s quartet in residence.

Praised as a “fabulous foursome” and noted for performances which are “exceptional” and “full of imaginative daring”, the RTÉ ConTempo Quartet has a unique place in Irish musical life.

Lynn Singers, under the direction of Dervilla Conlon Maloney, and accompanied by Adam Collins, recently achieved major success in the City of Derry International Choral Festival.

The choral festival, on October 19-23, was attended by choirs from throughout Ireland, the UK and other parts of the world, and Lynn Singers were first in the National Sacred Music and the National Youth Choir competitions.

Later on the Sunday evening at the gala concert which concluded the festival, they were once more honoured by being presented with the Bishop’s Gate Hotel Award. This is the highest award on offer for choirs from Ireland and the UK who competed across all categories during the festival.

In their short existence Lynn Singers have been no strangers to success.

In 2015, their first year competing at both national and international level, they achieved first place at the Feis Ceoil and attained second prize in the City of Derry International Choral Festival and the Sligo Choral Festival for female choirs.

“Lynn Singers are a committed group of ladies,” said Dervilla.

“Our vision is not only to provide enjoyment for performers and audiences, but to strive to attain the highest quality in the performance of the diverse repertoire.

“We’re fortunate to have the talented accompanist Adam Collins from Mullingar to support this vision. We are committed to bringing both choral music of the highest quality to the midlands and Mullingar.”

Tickets for this Friday's event are available from The Topic Newsagents, Mount Street, and Just Books, Pearse Street, Mullingar, at €20 each.

Lynn Singers would like to thank all the local businesses and individuals who have supported them financially and in any other way to date.
