Youth to gather for weekend retreat in Mullingar

A retreat for young people who want to discover more about their Catholic faith takes place in Mullingar this weekend.

The three-day retreat will begin on Friday evening, November 25, as young people gather at St Finian’s College for a weekend of worship music, prayer, small group discussions, workshops and inspiring talks with plenty of time for socialising and developing friendships.

The gathering is organised by Youth 2000 Ireland and is one of three retreats held in Leinster every year. It is run on a donation-only basis.

Youth 2000 is a peer-lead initiative charged with the mission of eading young people to the heart of the church.

The weekend is aimed at people between the ages of 16 and 35 and allows young people to come together and help each other understand the Catholic faith.

Emma Sisk, media co-ordinator for Youth 2000 Ireland, said: “The weekend will be an opportunity for people in the area to gain a better understanding of who God is.

“Taking part in a weekend like this helps people embrace their faith and makes being a Catholic a lot more enjoyable when you see you are not alone.

“Everyone is there for each other and it is a great weekend especially if you don’t know many other young people in the faith in your area.

“Being exposed to adoration, testimonials, confession and other young Catholics really bolsters you and you leave on Sunday smiling and at peace with God.”

Registration opens on Friday at St Finian’s College, Mullingar from 7.30pm.
Meals are provided. Participants are required to bring a sleeping bag and pillow.

The retreat runs till Sunday November 27.
