Temperatures of -6 tonight in some parts of the country

Temperatures are set to plummet again tonight, Friday, with lows of -6 in some parts of the country.

Freezing fog may be more widespread so please take while making early morning journeys on Saturday.

Fog will clear slow tomorrow to reveal a cloudy day with some sunny spells.

It will remain cold and dry for the rest of the weekend, with values reaching -4 to zero at night, and 7 during the daytime.

Met Éirean are forecasting high pressure to dominate Ireland's weather pattern indicating mostly dry and settled conditions over the coming week or so.

However, looking ahead to next week, forecasts indicate it may become rather windy from the west around Wednesday.

This is where weather models diverge and show two possible outcomes.

European weather models show that a new high will bring dense fog and widespread frost.

However, the North American models show the same high rapidly weakening, creating a path for cold air from the north.

This could be cold enough for widespread snow showers by around December 4- 5.

We'll know more next week. Until then, wrap up warm and take care on the roads, allowing plenty of time for travel.
