Ramblers issue call for charity walk support

Those who are aiming to be more active in 2017 should put an event to take place on Sunday next, January 8, in their diaries.

They will be glad if they do because as well as the opportunity to do some physical activity in good company, they will be helping a charity.

The event is being hosted by the Boherquill Ramblers Walking Club in conjunction with the Edgeworthstown Branch of St Christopher’s, and it is "a relatively easy walk of 5km, starting and ending at Streete Parish Park" said Brian Nerney of the Ramblers.

"The walk will start at 2pm and will be suitable for all ages, so we hope for a great turnout," said Brian.

"It is on road and suitable for parents with buggies, and at the end, we will have complementary refreshments and entertainment in the centre."

The organisers would welcome offers from musicians or others in the entertainment line, as well as any other offers of support.

Call Brian Nerney on 086 2596656 or email brian.nerney@gmail.com, Alice Nerney 086 8130780, Eamon Carthy, chairman Edgeworthstown Branch of St Christopher’s, Philip Epps, PRO, Boherquill Ramblers or any member.

St Christopher’s provide residential training and special schools services for the intellectually disabled, as well as support and respite services for families throughout the midlands.

They need all the financial support they can get. "We hope to have a big turnout on the day to walk off the Christmas excess," said Brian.
