A person, believed to be a male in his 30s, died last evening after being struck by the 19.05 Sligo to Dublin train near Multyfarnham, in what has been described by Irish Rail as a 'tragic incident'.
In a statement issued to the Westmeath Examiner this morning, Irish Rail stated that the “19.05 Connolly Sligo service struck and fatally injured a person near Multyfarnham, outside Mullingar last evening”.
“Emergency services attended and the service departed the scene 90mins late. No other services were impacted.”
In a tweet issued last night, Irish Rail said that the reason for the delay was that the “emergency services are dealing with a tragic incident”.ic incident”.
