Westmeath Rose selected for TV appearance



Westmeath's Rose of Tralee contender, Eva Cooney has been selected to appear on the televised Rose of Tralee selections on RTÉ on Monday and Tuesday night.

Eva, from Glasson,  was among the second group of 16 Roses announced by the Rose of Tralee, Maggie McEldowney at Saturday morning's private breakfast event which was attended by the Roses, their families and Rose Centre coordinators.

The 22 year old Westmeath Rose, a final year psychology student at Trinity College, Dublin, is daughter of former Westmeath county councillor and solicitor Mark Cooney and his wife Anne, and she is grand daughter of former Minister for Justice Paddy Cooney.


The Roses who qualified on Saturday are:


Kerry, Chicago, Cork, Melbourne, Kentucky, Louth, Southern California, Darwin, Waterford, London, Donegal, Abu Dhabi, Armagh, New Zealand, Westmeath and Western Canada.

They join the following 16 Roses who were selected on Thursday night:


Down, Dublin, Fermanagh, Florida, Galway, Germany, Hong Kong, Kildare, Limerick, Offaly, San Francisco, South Carolina, Sydney, Texas, Toronto and Yorkshire.

The 23 year old from Glasson says she is very proud to represent her county.
