Megan D'Arcy out for a walk with her dogs Nina and Leah early this morning.

The (snowy) view from the Ben of Fore

This morning I walked to the second highest point in Westmeath - the Ben of Fore (191m).

Local legend says that this is where St Patrick’s successor Benigne preached the gospel to the people from the area.

From the OS marker you can see 14 counties and this morning it was a good day to try that as it was bright and clear.

Markers in the landscape that could be identified were the Dublin Mountains, the Slieve Blooms, Knockeyon, Loughcrew in Meath, the Hill of Maol, Rock of Curry and Mullaghmeen, the Arigna Mountains and the Cuilcagh mountains on the Cavan Fermanagh border.

There is also a great view of local roads and all the roads were clear with school buses out for both national and secondary schools.

The roads here were salted at 4am and the salt was still doing the job at 8am this morning.
