Mullingar TY students plan charity 5k walk

The TY students of Coláiste Mhuire together with the TY students of Loreto College, St Joseph’s, Rochfortbridge and St Finian’s College have joined forces to organise a 5km walk in Mullingar.

Their collaboration will raise funds for four local charities: TEAM, Good2Talk, the Friends Of Regional Hospital Mullingar scanner fund and LARCC.

The walk takes place on February 28 at 10am, beginning in the Harbour Field and continuing along the canal bank.

St Loman’s star Paul Sharry has agreed to be on hand to get the students warmed up and ready to go on the day.

This is the first time that the four local TY groups have joined forces on such a venture and all are excited at the prospect of working alongside others in our community.

All involved hope that the success of the walk this year will ensure it becomes an established annual event on the TY calendar.

This fundraising opportunity lends directly to the Transition Year Programme, as it is strongly rooted in community involvement and awareness.

Speaking on behalf of some of the local charities at the launch in Coláiste Mhuire, a representative from TEAM explained that despite government funding, they still suffer a significant shortfall each year and donations are vital to the successful running of the shelter.

All TY students have been provided with sponsorship cards and will be seeking donations in the coming days. Please give anything you can, small or large as every little counts and will make a huge difference to the lives of those in need.
