Kilbeggan car club to feature at classic car show in RDS at weekend

The Kilbeggan based Midland American Auto Club (MAAC) will be displaying a selection of its vehicles at the RIAC National Classic Car Show in the RDS this weekend.

The theme of this year’s show is ‘Celebrating Italian Car Design’ and it is at the RDS, Simmonscourt Hall, Ballsbridge, Dublin on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 March.

Eamon Fidgeon of the MAAC told the Westmeath Examiner that his club will have four vehicles on display at the weekend: a pick-up, a Corvette, a Ford Mustang and a Starsky and Hutch replica Ford Torino.

An American Pumper No 2.

This, the fourth RIAC National Classic Car Show, (https://www.classiccarshow.ie/) is sponsored by classic car and motorcycle insurance broker, Carole Nash.

The Italian theme will be prominent throughout the show.

Visitors will be able to admire iconic cars such as Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Abarth – many of which will never have been seen at an Irish classic car show.

Of particular note will be the Maserati 105S racing car (featured in the printed material to highlight the show).

The main feature area will be a display of Ferraris, reflecting the distinguished history of the iconic brand.

Another feature display that is sure to be a favourite is a display of micro cars featuring a rare Zandapp Janus andthe smallest BMW ever made – the 300cc Isetta.

Two American Pumper Fire Engines will also be a big draw for many and add an international flavour to the show.

And on the American theme, the MAAC has preparations for its annual show in Kilbeggan, on Sunday April 22 this year, well advanced.

The club has a competition for a VIP Show Package on its website (see http://maac-ireland.com/content/vip-show-package).

It includes bed and breakfast at New Forest Estate on Saturday April 21 for four people (www.newforest.ie); one year’s membership to the Midland American Auto Club; four tickets to the All American Car, Truck, Military and Bike show on April 22; and a free ‘ride in an American vehicle.

A 1958 Zundapp Janus is one of the unusual vehicles that will be on display at the RDS this weekend.
