Rebecca's Belfast to Dublin runs raises €1,000 for LARCC

Rebecca Carroll from Castletown Geoghegan called to LARCC recently to present the €1,143.90 in sponsorship she raised for doing a ultra marathon between Belfast and Dublin on Good Friday.

At 107 miles, it is Rebecca’s longest distance event to date, but she is no stranger to other long-distance runs, including the Moylagh JFK 50-Mile Challenge, which she has completed for the last four years – and raised a lot of money for Cancer Support Sanctuary LARCC.

Rebecca wishes to thank everyone who contributed in to the amount she has raised, for which LARCC is very grateful.

In particular Rebecca would like to thank some of her larger sponsors, such as Franky Wright of Lilliput Adventure Centre and Peter Moore of Peter Moore and Company.

Rebecca says that without the support of so many family and friends she could not have raised this significant amount.

LARCC offers free counselling and therapies and group supports to cancer patients and their family members who find themselves in need of emotional and psychological support while dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

LARCC offer a Children’s service to support the young people in families affected by a diagnosis and a Breast Care service for ladies who have been through surgery for breast cancer.

Also delivered at LARCC is Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD), which is a clinical treatment used to reduce swelling which can occur for clients whose natural lymphatic system has been compromised as a result of surgery.

As well as offering a range of call-in support services to people diagnosed with cancer and their families right across the midlands, LARCC is the only residential cancer support programme provider in Ireland.

LARCC services are run by a dedicated team of nurses, therapists and counsellors and 80% of the operating budget of near €240,000 must be raised annually through events and fundraisers such as this, and kind donations from the general public and business community, to keep the service going year on year.
