Mullingar's Rail Theatre Company will run auditions for two new plays in the Mullingar Arts Centre next Tuesday night, January 26.

The first is for a play called "Bent" by Martin Sherman. Written in 1979, the plot revolves around the persecution of gays in Nazi Germany, and takes place during and after the Night of the Long Knives. Auditions begin at 7.30pm

The second is for an all-female cast, "Iron" by Rona Munro, which follows the story of a mother who is serving a life sentence for murdering her husband. Auditions begin at 9pm.

Both plays will tour and will be performed at a festival in Dublin on May Bank Holiday weekend.

Director Sean Lynch says experience is essential.

Rail Theatre Company has toured extensively with its repertoire of plays including One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Portia Coughlan, Jake's Women, Last of the Red Hot Lovers and Stags and Hens.

This Summer Rail has been invited to perform at the Electric Picnic Festival for the third year in a row.
