Whelehans pharmacy supports larcc in work

Whelehans Pharmacy in Mullingar is delighted have helped raised funds for Cancer Support Sanctuary LARCC by holding a raffle at the recent launch of their new Beauty Services. Whelehans would like to thank all who attended their recent beauty launch and their generous contributions to LARCC in which €325 was raised.

Eamonn from Whelehans would like to “encourage anyone who is thinking of raising funds for a good cause to consider raising funds for this great local charity which is doing invaluable work”

Cancer Support Sanctuary LARCC is a local charity that has a national profile. It is led by a team of dedicated nurses, therapists, counsellors and administrators. LARCC has recently moved to a purpose built centre, in the peaceful grounds of the Franciscan Friary in Multyfarnham. Recently LARCC has rebranded to Cancer Support Sanctuary LARCC to better reflect the work done at the centre.

The LARCC Centre offers emotional and psychological support to people and their families who are living with cancer. The Centre provides a homely supportive environment where patients and family members can participate in its courses, obtain information and part-take in the full range of support services on offer which include:- counselling, complementary therapies, nurse support, telephone helpline, breast care service, manual lymphatic drainage therapy, bereavement support and pamper days.

Invaluable cancer service

Pharmacist Eamonn Brady of Whelehans pharmacy explains that “LARCC’s services are only possible with voluntary work, fundraising and the support of the people of Westmeath and beyond.

Through my work as a pharmacist I see the great work undertaken by LARCC in supporting people suffering from cancer; the break and support that LARCC offers from the constant struggle of cancer can be life-changing or even life-saving; it often gives people the strength to go and fight and often beat the condition”

Bernie explains that “LARCC cares for over 600 people per annum through counselling, complementary therapies, nurse support and a range of specialist services such as the Breast Care Service & MLD (manual lymphatic drainage).

We welcome people from all over Ireland. It costs hundreds of thousands per annum to run the service with 80% needing to be raised through fundraising and donations and in this tough economic climate every euro donated is greatly valued and appreciated by the team at LARCC”. “

Cancer is such a crushing diagnosis emotionally and spiritually. Thankfully cancer diagnosis does not often mean terminal illness like it used to. Now with improved diagnostic tools and improved treatment options, more and more people are surviving cancer. LARCC aims to support people through this long and difficult journey. Recently LARCC launched the Lazarus Forumwhich empowers cancer survivors to express their thoughts on cancer in this public forum.

Current patients can access valuable information from long term survivors and thus have another source of hope in facing their own cancer. Check www.cancersupport.ie for more details.
