Good Friday pub opening - your views

Comments (0) | Print | Email

Some rugby supporters who want to watch Munster and Leinster in the Magners League on Good Friday are complaining that they won't be able to do so, because of the traditional ban here on pubs opening on the Holyday.

Do you think that pubs should open on Good Friday or not? Let us know by voting in our poll further down this site.

Have your say. Post a comment on this article.

And The mob says- change for changes sake!

I can't stand the church but Lets keep a quaint Irish tradition alive instead of baying to creeping globalisation/ commercial interests/ those who take it upon themselves to be the self-appointed judges and scribes of human nature and need!!!

This sort of herd mentality has landed the country into the mess its currently in now.

its ONE DAY folks- you have all of the Bank Holiday weekend to drink the heads off yourselves/ pretend you like Rugby!!!

I agree with the last 3 comment's- the campaign is pathetic.

@ Monica- Limerick/ South Western Tourist board should encourage Leinster Rugby supporters to stay down for the Easter Weekend, rather than go home after the game on Good Friday.

They could then recuperate revenues lost by having D4 rugger types wine and dine in the various hostelries & pubs over the course of the remaining Bank Holiday weekend.

    Lorcan,

While I understand and agree what is being said on your behalf surely it is the ideology that really matters here. It is the Church-State connection that annoys some people and the remenence of exessive Church and religious interference on the way people are made live their lives that annoys people. The idea of a 'nanny state'. If we truly are a secular State then surely this view has to be contended

I would much perfer to see restricted opening times of shops on Sundays like on the continent. While this seems a bit more radical it is perhaps more productive from the point of view of stopping the spread of commerc*alisation and fast-paced tradition and puts the emphasis back on family (as opposed to religion) rather then an aribtary day throughout the year. It is much better re:Accomadation of all ways of thinking and while it accomodates religion it also accomadates family time.
