The Belvedere estate is well used to runners pounding its elegant paths and the management there are encouraging more of them to get out there on Friday July 20.

That's for the 6k Belvedere Trails Race, Fun Run and Walk and the proceeds will help Mid-Ireland Tourism to market the region (entry is €10, €5 for juveniles).

The event has an AAI permit; it starts at 8pm and participants will be able to enjoy the beautiful grounds of Belvedere, the trails along the lakeshore and through the wood and parkland.

Spot prizes includes hotel breaks, a Shannon cruise, admission to visitor attractions and activities, dinners and there are more in the usual categories.
