Nevin faces Dane in round of 32

Paul Fitzpatrick

Cavan bantamweight John Joe Nevin will face Dennis Ceylan of Denmark in the round of 32 at the Olympics after the draw for the 56kg division was made this afternoon in London.

The Mullingar native, who is the only male Irish boxer to medal in two World Championships, is seeded but did not receive a bye.

Twenty-three-year-old Ceylan reached the last four of the final Olympic qualifier in Trabzon back in April, losing to eventual winner Pavlo Ischenko of Ukraine.

He is the first Danish boxer to qualify for the Olympic Games since 1996.

Nevin, who turned 23 on June 7, will be hoping to use his elusive, counter-punching style to negate the Dane's aggression.

Nevin will take on the Dane tomorrow.
