Minors rue missed chances against Offaly

Westmeath’s minor (U17) footballers bounced back from a recent demoralising defeat at the hands of Meath to put in a creditable first half performance against Offaly in the Leinster championship last night, but a string of missed second half chances saw them go down to defeat against the Faithful men.

Offaly got the edge in the first ten minutes at O'Connor Park, Tullamore, with a goal from Aaron Kellaghan, but this only served to spur the Lake County on.

Playing some fine football and boosted by a goal from Multyfarnham’s Jamie Coffey, Westmeath went on to lead 1-7 to 1-5 at half time, with Jordan McDonnell on fine form from frees.

However, despite having some clear-cut chances in the second moiety, Martin McCabe’s troops registered only two points, and Offaly did the minimum to grind out a three-point (1-12 to 1-9) win.
