Riders from the Derryarkin Motocross Club in Rochfortbridge tasted success at an annual motocross awards event, hosted at Bloomfield House Hotel, Mullingar on Saturday November 24 last, including Pierce Shaw from Ballinagall and Karl Brady from Tyrrellspass.

The event was a celebration of a successful year of off road bike racing, and winners came from across the county to accept their awards after completing the six-round championship.

They included top youth rider, from Cork city, 15-year-old Jack Galvin, who picked up his national award and received a plaque as acknowledgment for his contribution in the three-man Coupe de l’Avenir in Belgium.

It was the 47th running of the event and the first time Team Ireland has won – against some of the best riders in Europe. Jack was accompanied by Dublin rider Jake Sheridan and James Mackerel from Belfast.

Among the local riders, Pierce Shaw was second overall in the Semi-Expert MX2 class, just behind Ben Orange from Dublin; and Karl Brady from finished third overall in the over 35 Semi-Expert class.
