Declan O'Rourke in Mullingar this Friday

One of Declan O'Rourke's best known songs is Galileo was his debut single and such is its quality that several other artists have covered or performed it - including the likes of Paul Weller.

Galileo (Someone Like You), to give it its full title, was on O'Rourke's debut album in 2004, Since Kyabram, the work that raised him from the Dublin gigging scene to an international profile.

He has since released albums in 2007 (Big Bad Beautiful World) and in 2011 (Mag Pai Zai) and his Christmas tour last year took in a full-house performance at the Olympia Theatre which was filmed for release as a limited-edition DVD.

Which is all brilliant, but O'Rourke's real strength is live performances and if you haven't experienced one of those - you should.

Luckily there is a chance to do so this weekend in Mullingar, at Danny Byrne's to be precise, this Friday March 1.

See you there...
