Tournament draws crowds

The Leinster Provincial Towns Junior Tournament took place over the May bank holiday weekend in Naas, in which no fewer than 16 juniors from Mullingar entered the various different events. This is the highest number of juniors from the club to participate in a official tournament for quite a long time, and it indicates the level of interest from the players together with the input from the head coach, Norman Van Geerke. For the record the Mullingar entries were: Elamin Haitham, Niamh and Sinead Nolan, Alex &Andrew Patton, Ryan and Rory Johnston, Desmond Nwachi, Hugh Broderick, Gavin Moore, Eoin Ruane, Gareth and Simon Carr, Ronan O"Toole, Ciaran Nolan and Billy Flynn. Many thanks due to all the parents who took the time to assist in getting the juniors to Naas over the weekend. Without their help, many of the players would have unable to compete. After three days of very competitive tennis in which every single player gave it their all, Mullingar juniors put in some great performances and came home with a total of five trophies, with two outright winners and three runners up. Well done to all for their commitment and standard of play. A word of thanks too, to Patricia Sheridan, who supervised the event over the three days.Under 10s Boys: Winner Simon Carr, Runner Up; Ciaran NolanUnder 10s : Girls: Runner Up: Molly Moore(after tie break in third set)Under 14s: Naosan Moore, Runner Up: Ryan JohnstonNext up on the Junior Fixture list is the North Leinster Junior Open in Mullingar. The first event takes place on the Saturday (under10s) May 23rd and Sunday, (under9"s) May 24th when a large entry is anticipated.
