Mullingar Rugby Youths Awards Night

The youths had their awards evening last Friday and a very large group of players and family members turned out for what was a very pleasant evening. The weather played its part as a barbecue was taking place and with such big numbers turning out we needed the open fields to let some of the boys run off some energy. Along with all the individual awards in each age group the U 13s were presented with their Leinster Plate Cup and medals and a number of the squad were also presented with their runner up medals from the Leinster League Final.A big thanks to all who helped during the evening with the barbeque as feeding over 200 is a feat in itself. As we finish another season we would like to thank all the parents who helped in whatever way during the year. The U 7s and 8s were all presented with Certificates on completion of the season. The awards in each of the age groups were U 9s Most Improved Player; Sean Whelehan, Clubman; Simon Carr, Player of the Year; Niall Derham. U10s Most Improved Player; Cormac Murphy, Clubman; Conor Mount, Player of the Year; Ben Glennon. U11s Most Improved Player; Padraig Kincaid, Clubman; Johnny Moran, Player of the Year; Gareth Carr. There is also an award for the overall Player of the Year given to the most outstanding player from the Player of the Year in each age group and this went to Patrick Simpkin, who really had a great year and is the first player to receive the award for a second time, having been awarded the title two years ago while at U 16s.U 20s Rugby World CupMark Flanagan who has come through our youths section has been selected to represent Ireland in the U 20 World Cup being held in Japan between June 5th and 21st. Mark played in all of Ireland"s U 20 Six Nations championship earlier this year where they finished 2nd to France. We wish Mark all the best of luck in Japan.Last Saturday we had a very pleasant evening in the club watching Leinster team win the Heineken Cup and again the Barbeque was in use and a great atmosphere in the club. Hopefully we will have the same atmosphere there for the Lions games when hopefully a good number of the traveling Irish contingent will get into the test games.
