Kinnegad childcare kids raise €400 for Peruvian workshops

The Kukuli workshops in the Peruvian capital of Lima have benefited to the tune of €400 from yet another innovative fundraiser in Kinnegad.Earlier this year, a very successful table quiz was held at the Hilamar Hotel, Kinnegad, to raise money for creches in Kukuli, one of the poorest districts in the centre of Peru's chief city.This time, the kids and staff of Cairdeas - Kinnegad Community Childcare Limited - and their parents put their heads together to come up with a fun way of raising funds for a group in Lima known as Association Gabriela Mistral.The group runs the Kukuli workshops, which provide education, nutrition and health programmes for some of the poorest children living in Lima.The Hallowe'en fancy dress fundraiser, which ran all day at the Killucan Road centre on Friday, October 23, was a tremendous success, and almost €400 was raised by the children, their parents and the staff of Cairdeas.Liz O'Rourke, Manager at Cairdeas, extended her thanks to all who supported the fundraiser.Cairdeas/Kinnegad Community Childcare, which has operated since 2004, provides full day-care for babies from six months, junior and senior toddlers, playgroup, after schools Service, Summer Camp (July) as well as a Parent and Toddler Group.The centre is the first community childcare facility in Westmeath to have been awarded the NCNA "All Ireland Centre of Excellence" award.
