Judge warns man to join in his community
A 33-year-old Dubliner living in Kinnegad was fined €250 and warned to observe the traditions of the community he lives in at a recent sitting of Mullingar District Court.William Scott whose address was given to the court as 20 Bun Daire Kinnegad was seen by Gardaí at Manorfield in Kinnegad at 1.35pm on August 2 2009, walking along the road and drinking from a can of beer. Mr Scott then "staggered" over to the passenger window of the Garda patrol car.Defence solicitor Louis Kiernan said that his client was a father of four children and that he "should have known better" than his behaviour on the day in question."This is a great country when Gardai can find a man walking along highly intoxicated at that time of day," said Judge Neilan. "Your are from Dublin City Mr Scott? Kinnegad is not Dublin City. The thought of seeing a man walking through the streets like that 30 or 40 years ago would have been the same as seeing a man jumping off the moon and landing on the ground. You must join the community in Kinnegad on its own terms."
