Celebrating Creativity with Cruinniú na nÓg at Mullingar Library

Saturday 15 June sees the return of Ireland’s largest festival celebrating creativity in young people.

If you are in Mullingar on Saturday, call into Mullingar Library: we will have a Monster Doodle with Brigid running from 10am-noon. #Mullingar Library will also be hosting creative crafts 11am-12.30pm. Call 0449332161 to book a space.

Andy Spearpoint will be holding some music workshops in the Atrium of Westmeath County Council.

Starting at 10.15am, ‘Where the Wild things are’ is a chance for 4-6-year-olds to try some music along with a favourite story.

This is followed up with the Good Vibrations Orchestra workshop for 7-10-year-olds, a chance for everyone to try an instrument.

The workshops are free but booking is essential. Call 044 9332161 to reserve a place.

Music Generation Offaly Westmeath will also be having a Music Jammers performance in the Atrium of County Buildings (12-12.45pm). Come along and support the young performers.

Drop in to the Crane Bird Arts Studio for free workshops. Aida will be open 10am-8pm offering the chance for children to be creative trying mosaic art, mask making, recycling – make your own fairy house and mixed media art – create a 3D flower pot on canvas. Call 085 187 5458 for further details.

Athlone

In in Athlone, the Aidan Heavy Library will be hosting a fun day of music, art and performance (10am-4pm).

Join the Big Dig at McCormack Square at the Civic Centre for Cruinniú na nÓg 2019 (11am-4.30pm) as part of a free event, where we will be running 45min sessions.

You can book the first two sessions online and the rest of the sessions will be bookings on the day at the venue.

We will also have Viking Coin Striking Workshop for the children alongside our Big Dig, at 12 children max per workshop.

The first coin striking workshop will start at 11.45am.

Each Coin Workshop lasts 15min and they will run every 45min throughout the day of the event – last one at 3.30pm.

The coins will be a drop-in event and available for the participants of the Big Dig.

You will also have a chance to book with us over the course of the day at the event, so arrive early to book your spot.

The Luan Gallery and Athlone Castle have puppet events lined up, including free puppet-making workshops at 9.45-2.30pm – places must be booked. Contact the Luan on 0906442154.

A fantastic opportunity for young actors is available as actor Olivia Caffrey and casting director Carl Proctor join forces in Coosan NS for drama workshops.

Five-seven-year-olds are welcome to register for the morning workshop starting at 10.30am and 8-12-year-olds can join the afternoon workshop starting at 2pm.

Don’t forget to stop by the John Count McCormack Square on Saturday as the Athlone Family Resource Centre have organised a festival.

DJ Scott Sweeney, Spiderman, Elsa from Frozen and other children’s characters will be bringing a carnival atmosphere to the Canopy Area (2-5pm).
