Staff at Shaws Department Store, Olive Dalton, Michelle Hogan and Cathal Roughneen, were all smiles Monday morning as the store reopened to customers.

Mullingar shops back open for business!

There was a buzz around Mullingar Town centre on Monday morning as non-essential retailers opened their doors for the first time since Christmas.

With face masks at the ready, a queue of a dozen people had gathered outside Shaws Department Store on Austin Friars Street in anticipation of the 10am start.

Manager Cathal Roughneen breathed a sigh of relief as he opened the doors for the first time in five and a half months.

“The staff are delighted to be back. We’ve been here the last two weeks getting the shop ready for reopening.

"We’re still transitioning from our payday stock, there is an additional 20% reduction on that. We also have our new summer stock in our lady fashions. It’s a great day.”

While click-and-collect and shop-by-appointment facilities opened last week, it was the first day back for Galvin for Men on Oliver Plunkett Street.

“We’ve been busy the last few weeks getting ready for opening and last week for click and collect,” says Rob Galvin, owner.

“We just launched our new website GalvinforMen.com, so we’ve been busy with that. There’s a good buzz around the town and a few people have been into us first thing. I think we’ve seeing the last of the lockdowns – hopefully.”
