Rain and thunderstorm warning in effect until tomorrow

Met Éireann has issued a yellow-level rainfall and thunderstorm warning for the 26 counties which will remain in effect until noon tomorrow (Thursday).

The warning was issued shortly after 9am today, with the national forecaster predicting scattered heavy downpours and thunderstorms in some areas during the day, tonight, and for a time tomorrow.

"Localised flooding may occur where the rainfall is heaviest," said Met Éireann.

There has been some significant thunder and lightning in Galway and other parts Connacht this morning, but the Midlands has been largely unaffected by it thus far.

The unsettled weather will continue into the weekend, with daytime temperatures set to fall back into the mid-teens on Saturday and Sunday.
