Final countdown to Mullingar Half Marathon

The team at the Mullingar Half Marathon are busy completing preparations for the live race this Saturday.

Registration remains open till Friday at noon, and though numbers are limited, there are places available.

This is an Athletics Ireland approved event and as it’s a flat course it is a great opportunity to achieve your personal best.

The start time this year is 9am. It will be a mass start, which is permitted following the phased lifting of Covid Restrictions from September 20. However, the formal requirement is to ensure social distancing, excellent hygiene and mask wearing as required at events.

This year the route map is similar to that of previous years, but with is a slight change at the end – the race leaves the Royal Canal Greenway just after Saunders Bridge at the Millmount Rail Bridge, not at Pipers Borreen.

There are pacers for 1:25, 1:30, 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10. A race pack including a race T-shirt, medal, water bottle and some goodies will be at a designated collection point at the end of the race.

Race HQ will be open for queries and number collection but there will be no bag drop facility at this year’s event due to Covid.

In line with public health guidelines, face coverings are required in crowded areas. All participants, volunteers and attendees are asked to wear face coverings in the start and finish areas and to practise good hygiene and social distancing throughout the event.

They also thanked sportswear partners Elverys Sports, who are giving 10% discounts to all runners in both Mullingar stores in the lead-up to the race.
