Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Hospice on the Market Square

Margaret Claffey, chairperson, North Westmeath Hospice fundraising committee, (in the video here with Carmel Kerrigan), and colleagues have been flat-out busy this morning at The Market Square in Mullingar as they host ‘Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Hospice together with Bewley’s’.

Tearing herself away from serving and chatting contributors and customers, Margaret told the Westmeath Examiner that this is the second annual coffee morning outdoors, on the Square with the help of Hot To Trot (mobile coffee and crepes) – Colm De Burca and Niamh Synott – supplying the coffee.

“We have donations from the Greville Arms, Stodge Face, Grove, and the Spiced Bean, who supplied lovely goodies, scones, cakes and a variety of treats.

“There is a great spirit around Mullingar. Since I got involved with North Westmeath Hospice, I’ve been humbled by the loyalty and the generosity of the people of Mullingar, and the north Westmeath area.”

The hospice team, Hot To Trot, the tea and coffee, and the buzz will be there for the rest of today and tomorrow.

Valerie Eivers, Lesley Tynan and Alice Eivers, now Joyce. Alice, originally from Ballyncargy, has lived in Formby, just north of Liverpool, for some 40 years and is back home this week for the first time in two years, visiting her sister, other family and friends, and delighted to be home.
Sr Therese, Dolores Gaffney, Delvin (back), Mary Cooney and Yvonne Shaw.
This group from the active retirement group in New Ross are spending a week in Mullingar, staying at Bloomfield House Hotel. They were out for a walk around the town centre when they stopped at The Market Square for a chat and coffee in the midlands sunshine.
