Local teenager wins prestigious award for young reporters

A secondary school student from Westmeath has won a prestigious award for his report on littering in his locality during the pandemic.

Shane King from Ballinagore has won the An Táisce Young Reporters for the Environment Award 2021, which is awarded by a panel of international judges.

This is a prestigious award for the student, who attends Mercy Secondary School in Kilbeggan. Shane was awarded first place by the international jury .The competition is run by the An Táisce Education Unit and encourages students to investigate a local litter or waste issue and report their findings through a written article, video clip or photograph report.

Budding reporter Shane is building up an impressive CV, another video report he did on littering in his locality was featured on RTE News2day earlier this year.
