Olympian to visit Mullingar Jets Swimming Club

Long-established local swimming club, Mullingar Jets, is to welcome Irish Olympian Shane Ryan to the Annebrook House Hotel on Friday December 3 (6.45pm to 8pm).

The club, on the go for nearly 40 years, is celebrating recent success at the Leinster Regional Galas, and is looking forward to future national and international events, continuing to exceed expectations despite Covid restrictions

Shane Ryan, an Irish-American born and raised in the United States but now living in Portarlington, Co. Laois, where his father was born. He represented Ireland in Olympic swimming competition in both 2016 and 2020 (the latter taking place this year).

After switching his allegiance to Ireland in 2016, he won bronze medals in the 50m backstroke at the European and World Championships in 2018, before repeating this success at the Europeans in 2019.

With 130 members, Mullingar Jets is currently one of the largest clubs in the country, competing in all areas during the swimming calendar – competitive, masters and Special Olympics events.

“The club is proud of its long heritage as one of Mullingar’s prestigious sporting clubs,” the club said in a statement, looking forward to Ryan’s visit next Friday.
