Christy Moore to perform solo concert in Athlone

Irish folk legend Christy Moore will be coming to Athlone for a solo performance in April.

The Dean Crowe Theatre will host the concert on Saturday, April 16, at 8pm.

Tickets, priced €42, will go on sale from the theatre's online box-office this Wednesday morning, January 26, at 10am.

Christy released his latest album, Flying into Mystery, in November. Last week he announced four February shows at the Pavilion Theatre in Dún Laoghaire, all of which are now sold-out.

With live music in short supply over the last two years, Dean Crowe Theatre manager Killian Collins said this week's announcement of the well-known singer's Athlone appearance was a major boost.

"We are delighted to see Christy supporting theatre venues and it’s a huge lift for us following the last two years," said Killian.

"Christy’s gig is part of a busy season of events over the next four months. We have music, comedy, drama, musical theatre and a number of community events.

"Season highlights will include Mojo Mickybo, Michael English, Menopause the Musical 2, and Oliver Callan. There’s a number of events on sale already on our website, with several more to come.

"In many ways, this is the most challenging period, as Government supports fade away and we try to rebuild. We are relying on audiences to attend and give their support.

"It's also a very exciting time, and feels like a take-off moment," he said.

The Dean Crowe Theatre is continuing to operate an online-only box office for the time-being.
