Loreto College fundraiser: Chips for Ukraine!

On Wednesday March 16, Loreto College Mullingar organised a fundraiser in aid of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Loreto history and religion teacher, Ms Moorhead, and her Leaving Certificate social education class planned it and organised a chip van to come to the school and offer chips for all Loreto students and staff throughout the day, with all proceeds going to Ukraine.

The students promoted the event throughout the school using posters and giving announcements in order to collect €2 from every student for the cause. With the generosity of David Smyth Catering, the chips were provided free of charge and water was kindly supplied by SuperValu Mullingar.

The Leaving Certificate class were eager to help the Ukrainian people in whatever way they could, and the event was a huge success across the school. They raised €1,411 and sent the money to Ukraine through the Irish Red Cross.

As a student in Loreto College, I think such kindness and generosity at such an unfortunate time of violence and war is inspiring to all younger and older students, to be aware and take action against the problems and corruption that may arise nationally or internationally, in the world around us.

Thanks to photographer John McCauley for taking photos of the event, and to Ms Moorhead for organising the event successfully.
