Unusual vehicle seized in the Midlands for having no insurance

Gardai in the Midlands have seized an unusual motorised vehicle, saying it meets the official definition of a 'mechanically propelled vehicle' and therefore requires insurance and a licence to drive it.

The roads policing section in Offaly said on social media that the vehicle had been impounded because it was being driven without insurance or a driving licence.

"It is an electric tricycle with 1.5kw power which is an MPV (mechanically propelled vehicle) under the road traffic act," said the Garda Siochana Laois Offaly page on Facebook.

The force added that, as it was an MPV, insurance and a driving licence was required in order to use it on the public roads.
