Iggy Fulham Memorial Tournament taking place next week

This year's Iggy Fulham Memorial Primary Schools Tournament takes place at Sean Doolin Park Milltown next Wednesday, June 7.

One of the most eagerly anticipated days of the year for Westmeath football's stars of the future, the event is attended by teams from over a dozen local national schools.

The event was started by PJ and Maureen Fulham in memory of their son Iggy, a very popular and well-respected figure in GAA circles and wider community, who passed away at a relatively young age following a short illness.

The tournament is broken up into two competitions: teams from larger national schools participate in the Iggy Fulham Memorial Tournament, while teams from smaller schools take part in the Iggy Fulham Memorial Shield.

At last year's tournament, Milltown National School won their fifth title defeating Taughmon in the final of the Iggy Fulham Memorial Tournament, while in the Memorial Shield final Emper won their fourth title in a row when they saw off the challenge of St Mary's, Rathowen in the decider.

The MC once again this year is local journalist Gerry Buckley, a supporter of the tournament since its foundation.

Proceedings get underway at 9.45am.
