The Mullingar Town U13 side overcame East Meath Utd in the U14 SFAI trophy.

Mullingar U13 side secure fine win in Meath

Mullingar Town 6-1 East Meath

The underage section is moving towards the end of the league and cup action for 2026 as the NERL is a summer soccer season.

Our Under 8s, 9s, 10s season is complete as coachingtakes a break until the league resumes in March. All of these teams played and learned the football, and look forward to the 2026 season.

Our U11 team were in action in the U12 SFAI Trophy away to Clonee Utd on Saturday and were unfortunate to meet a team which could not miss – a tough result but as the management pointed out the scoreline was not reflective of the performance put in by a strong squad with plenty of potential to improve. Thanks to all who travelled and especially parents for their time.

Our under 14 team were idle and have a chance to continue their season with a shield match due to be played next week and might see this improving and dedicated squad with a chance of a league semi-final.

The U13 side travelled to East Meath Utd in the U14 SFAI trophy on Sunday with the goal of keeping our season alive and the team duly delivered with an excellent team performance overcoming a physical and well organised East Meath Utd team on a scoreline of 6-1. On what was a difficult match on paper this team performed and full credit to all players for a terrific team performance. Filip scored the first goal after six minutes with a fine finish after terrorising the opposing defence with his running and attacking ability on the wing.

Mullingar Town conceded an equaliser against the run of play after 13 minutes but the team reset and after great work by midfield trio of Rian, Cónal and Dylan who thread a pinpoint pass to Terence who calmly fired the ball past the ‘keeper to restore our lead. Dylan was having his best game for Mullingar Town AFC.

The second half saw Mullingar Town U13s continue to attack with intent with Terence coming close on two occasions to extend our lead. Eventually our attacking paid off with Cónal winning and taking a free kick to put a small bit of daylight between teams with a goal to go 3-1 up. Terence continued to terrorise the opposition defence with his runs and all-round centre forward play. He was unlucky with an offside goal but this did not deter him with as Terence put the game to bed with three goals which all were excellent finishes in their own right.

Assists from Filip after another great run, Rian with a terrific through ball and Cónal with another through ball. Terence was prominent and after a terrific effort from outside the box hit the bar for the third time in this match.

Again, this was an outstanding team performance with defence of James, Reece, Ryan, Luke and Stephen holding strong with the midfield trio of Cónal Rian and Dylan working and showing quality throughout the game. Wingers – Filip, Keelan, Ledion and Theo were excellent throughout the game with their unselfish runs and continuing to attack the opposition at every opportunity. James Meehan in goals again was a presence and controlled the defence while always making the right decisions and when needed making saves. Terence was excellent upfront and has really pushed on with his goalscoring – with four goals and an all-round excellent performance both as striker and captain.

Player of the Match from this game has to go to Terence Gibson. Thanks to parents for travelling and management team of Fergus Murphy, Darren Meehan, Terence Gibson and Mark Quinn.

The U15s played against a very good Ardee Celtic side in the SFAI cup. Despite being depleted by other commitments the team put in a solid display at the home of soccer in Mullingar and narrowly lost on a scoreline of 2-1. Thanks again to management team of Jason Duff, Keith Hope and Tommy Keena who have worked with this group all year and the improvement is there to be seen.

Other club news will see the Christmas raffle taking place with cards being giving out to all underage players during the week. The draw will be held on Nov 29 at 9pm upstairs in Canton Casey’s and will double up as a Parent’s and Coach’s Appreciation night. There will be music and food on the evening and we would like to see as many parents and coaches as possible to attend. All proceeds of raffle will go to the underage section and our development fund. Watch out for news on club development plans.

On Friday December 5 at 6pm in Shamrocks clubhouse, we will see our underage season wrap up with our presentation awards night. Thanks to Mullingar Shamrocks for allowing us to host this event in their clubhouse. Again we want to see all our underage players attend with pizza for all and tea / coffee for parents.
