O'Reilly Double

Thursday's (October 29th) well attended meeting at Mullingar featured all four second round heats of the 525 yds Ripley Court Hotel A3 Sweepstake.Mostrim owner Seán O'Reilly recorded the first leg of a double in the first heat of the Ripley Court Hotel Sweepstake with Cranley Squire. From a level break he took the lead in the back straight and held on to win by half a length from Springwell Road in the best return of the session of 29.68.In the second heat Rockhill Time broke in front and led into the home straight where the chasing Slow To Part came with a late surge to claim victory by one and three quarter lengths in 29.86 for the Cavan Slow to Part Syndicate.Tommy Bolton supplied the winner of the third heat with Saving April which he trains for Essex owner Kevin Procter. Having been in arrears in the early stages he came from off the pace in the home straight to claim the spoils by one and three quarters from Nota Scooby Doo in 29.71.Seán O'Reilly completed the double in the fourth heat with Cranley Emma. From a very fast break she made every yard of the running to win by an extending four and a half lengths from Glenbryan in 29.96.In the 525 yds first race. High Image broke in front and built up a long lead in the back straight and held pole position into the home straight. On the run to the line he held on to win by one and a quarter lengths from Tine Beag in 30.38 for his Duleek joint owners Michael Murray and Barry Heavey.Athlone owner Denis Hannon supplied the winner of the 400 yds third race with Springwell Messi. After taking the lead in the home straight he had three and a quarter lengths to spare at the line from Tenisca in 22.02.From a level break in the 400 yds fifth Space Mission and Tudor Jenny disputed the lead into the home straight where Space Mission found a little bit extra in the late stages to win by one and a quarter lengths in 22.45 for his Laois owner Miss Ailbhe Dunne.Cleverland Teaser came into the 525 yds seventh race from the reserve panel and duly did the business for the Navan Cumberland Syndicate. From a very fast break he powered home alone nine and a half lengths clear from Knocknalyre Star in 29.82.From a level break in the 525 yds eight race Sabre Tooth took control in the back straight and held on all the way to win by half a length from Lady Bojangles in 30.37. The winner is owned in Sligo by Thomas McCallion.In a closely contested ninth race over 525 yds Aranock Seek came from off the pace in the home straight to win by a head from Dazzle Em Jan in 30.08 for her Tullamore owner Noel O'Meara.Mount Temple owner Thomas Kerrigan supplied the winner of the 525 yds eleventh race with Moody Tune. Club. There was a good attendance who witnessed an exciting nights racing. The feature race on the card was the final of The Gain Supporting Retired Greyhounds over the 525 yds course.Unbeaten in the earlier round of the sweepstake, it was no surprise that the Michael Murphy (Co. Kildare) owned and trained Deadly Buzz went to post a warm favourite at odds of 5/4. He did not give his supporters any anxiety as he broke smartly from traps and was always in command, winning by three lengths from another Kildare runner Rough Legend in the smart time of 29.47.The first race the Dunphy's Gala Rhode 600 saw Ciaras Boss, jointly owned by Michael Lynch, Daingean and Séamus Quinn, Rhode, coming into trap five as a reserve. There was strong support in the betting ring for this Offaly runner, starting at evens favourite. He hit the lead soon after trap rise and continued a relentless gallop to score by two lengths from the fast finishing Compass Allison in a time of 33.71.Local owner Frank O'Hara from Coralstown supplied the winner of the second race, the O'Toole Bar & Lounge Rhode 525, when his charge Knockra Duke came away well from traps and ran on to win by two and three quarter lengths from Uifaile Joey in 29.97.The Eden Decor - John Kilmurray Painting 400 was the third race on the programme. Once again a reserve runner Compass Damien was successful. Compass Damien, trained by Tommy Bolton for Middleton owner Mrs. Helen Wadsworth took command at the first bend and ran out a comfortable winner by three and a half lengths from the Co. Fermanagh owned Tahina Sonic. The winning time was 21.85.The fifth race, the Murphy Engineering & Eden Aluminium 525 saw a ding-dong battle between Cranly Aisling and Groovy Captain following crowding at the first bend. The Sean O'Reilly (Edgeworthstown) owned Cranley Aisling ran a very determined race to take the honours by a quarter of a length from the Bolton trained Groovy Captain in 30.56.The Denis Hannon (Athlone) owned Springwell Ben took the sixth race in the Colm Killeen Bar & Lounge Rhode 550 in very convincing fashion. He bolted from traps and ran on the easiest of winners from Cupids Risk in the useful time of 30.94.The seventh race was a 600 yds event sponsored by the Seadec & St. Bridgets G.A.A. Club, Croghan. This was a closely contested affair, where the Conleth Stynes, Co. Kildare owned Marshalls Breeze won by a neck from David Sheridan's (Moate) Sherco Gold in 34.46.Rhode supporters got plenty to cheer about when the Paddy McCormack owned Ardavagga Dazl took the eight race. The Brain Kileen Daybreak & Dermot Hall Mensware 525. Ardavagga Dazl took the lead at the first bend and was challenged strongly by the Marie Garry trained Rica Rica, and in an exciting finish the McCormack owned Ardavagga Dazl just held on to win by a neck in 29.81.The best time of the night was recorded in the ninth race. The Edenderry Power Ltd. & Bord na Mona 525, where a fine display of tracking was shown by the Tommy Bolton trained Saveyoursavings. From a level break, Saveyoursavings showed fine early pace to take the lead at the first bend and build up a commanding lead on the back straight. Dartry Fantasy ran on strongly to take second place three lengths back. The winner is owned in England by Kevin Proctor and the winning time was an excellent 29.33.The tenth race over 525 yds was sponsored by Brooks Hardware & Carroll-Kinsella. Gingora led in the early stages followed closely by the Aidan O'Donnell (Co. Meath) owned Lively Feet. Into the home straight Lively Feet looked a winner, however Derrendard Clodagh owned in Offaly by P.J. Rigney came with a storming run from off the pace to take the honours by a half a length in the useful time of 29.65.The final race on the programme, the Paul Fay Bookmaker 525 saw the Tom Gonoud (Clonasle, Co. Laois) owned Doonalley June come with a tremendous run in the home straight to win by three and a half lengths from the Vera Croarkin (Co. Fermanagh) trained Tahina Sonic in 29.76.
