There are two Westmeath riders among this lot, Damien Kelly and Lee McMahon, an international rider who has competed in Spain. They and many other riders will be at the motocross track in Moate for a charity fun weekend on June 15-16.

Moate motocross track hosts charity fun weekend on June 15-16

Our Lady’s Hospital in Crumlin will benefit from a day of action at the motocross track in Moate on June 15 and 16. It’s being organised by CCM Racing, a motorbike shop in Dublin that also runs the Moate race track at Doon.

Over the weekend they will have something to suit all the family, according to James Kennedy of CCM: “We will have motorbikes, mountain bikes, BMX and trials bikes, racing and demonstrations,” said James.

“We have some top class international riders coming to compete, and along with the biking, we have Outdoor Discovery running an adventure zone with climbing walls, zorb balls, zip lines and more.”

There will also be a display of classic cars and motorbikes, a hot air balloon and a plane flyby and display on the Saturday evening. Earlier on the Saturday will be a Hare and Hound team race (morning), classic bike and side-car racing (afternoon) and from 7pm to 9pm, an extreme enduro race with 10 top level international riders competing on a man-made race track of giant tyres, logs, and a 40ft container jump. The winner will take away a €500 cash prize.

There is a BBQ and a marquee – including Monster Energy fire breathing girls – on Saturday night too.

On Sunday there is motocross and supercross racing (supercross is on a smaller track but with more jumps and technical features) and throughout the weekend, bouncing castles, rodeo bull, paintballing, music, army vehicles, airplanes and much more entertainment.

It’s not just about the bikes, James could have said.
