LARCC gets €32k CLÁR funding for new vehicle

A sum of €32,000 in CLÁR funding has been secured for mobility and cancer care transport for LARCC in Multyfarnham.

The funding was secured to buy a new eight-seater vehicle.

Fine Gael Deputy Peter Burke welcomed the news and said the CLÁR programme funding will support the purchasing of a vehicle to transport people for medical services.

“The funding will support the LARCC Cancer Support Sanctuary in Multyfarnham and will allow for transport to/from cancer treatment as well as transport of those who have mobility issues to access their medical needs," said Dep Peter Burke.

“Having met with Bernie, the manager of LARCC Cancer Support Sanctuary, I know the fantastic work they do in Multyfarnham for the people of this county and region. More funding and resources for these services is always needed.

"I was delighted to learn from Minister Michael Ring that the application has been successful. This will make life easier for Bernie and all her team, as well as the many patients who avail of services."

Services provided by LARCC include a free call-in service, breast care service, complementary therapies, manual lymphatic drainage therapy, counselling and support, nurse support, a helpline, bereavement support and much more for those suffering from cancer and their families.

“This funding will provide a vehicle that will enable people living in rural areas in the region to travel to medical care or respite centres free of charge," continued Dep Burke.

“The difference the provision of these vehicles will make to the lives of families in remote rural areas in Westmeath who have to attend day care or medical services is incalculable.

“Having access to a wheelchair accessible vehicle in your area can mean the difference between being able to avail of day care, respite and other services, or being confined to home.”
