Mullingar set for CCE Fleadh delegates official visit to town

The Mullingar Fleadh Bid Committee and Westmeath Comhaltas are appealing for the support of retailers and the public in general as they prepare to showcase Mullingar to a top-level Comhaltas delegation .

The delegates are from Leinster Comhaltas and they will on Saturday be assessing Mullingar's suitability as a host town for the national Fleadh in 2020 and 2021.

From 10am to 5pm, the Mullingar Fleadh Bid Committee will show the delegates all Mullingar has to offer, and in a tour of the town, will take the visitors to Dominick Street, Oliver Plunkett Street, Mary’s Street, Mount Street, Pearse Street, Castle Street, Harbour Road and Austin Friars Street

The aim of the visit is to show the delegates all Mullingar has to offer as a potential host venue for the national Fleadh 2020 and 2021.

The Fleadh was held in Drogheda this year and brought 450,000 visitors to the town throughout the week.

The Committee is asking businesses to show their support by putting up a "Welcome to Mullingar" sign (in English or Irish) or a musical display. Posters can be obtained from the Chamber office.

"Clearly, 450,000 people will not only listen and play music but also eat, drink, sleep and shop for clothes, toiletries, pharmacy supplies and giftware, so every type of business in the town will benefit," the Fleadh committee has said this week.

They are also asking the general public that, if they see the delegation on Saturday, come up to say hello and tell them what it would mean for Mullingar to bring the Fleadh home.
