Two Mullingar graduates on Jameson programme, and firm is seeking more

When Irish Distillers last year put out a call for graduates with “serious character” to join its Jameson International Graduate Programme, two of the successful applicants were Mullingar men, Conor Walsh and Shane Dempsey

Now the firm is looking for graduates for next year’s programme who may be interested in following in the footsteps of Conor and Shane.

Conor is part of the Jameson International Marketing team based in Irish Distillers’ Head Office in Dublin and Shane is working as brand ambassador in the Gulf region covering UAE, Bahrain, Nepal and Qatar.

Says Conor: “I initially decided to apply for the Jameson International Graduate Programme after chatting to an Irish Distillers sales rep in The Fence in Mullingar, where I worked part time during my studies.

“He told me all about the programme and the opportunities to travel while working for Jameson.

“My time working in bars and studying mixology gave me a passion to pursue a career within the wine and spirits industry.

“The Jameson International Graduate Programme gave me the perfect platform to kick-start my career on a global stage within that business.”

Conor Walsh.

Shane actually trained to become a teacher: “However, I decided to apply for the Jameson International Graduate Programme as I was seeking a change of career and I felt like this programme presented an incredible opportunity and would provide the challenge that I was craving.”

He says he would advise any graduate looking for a challenging and rewarding graduate programme to consider applying.

“It has changed my life,” he stated.

Irish Distillers, the makers of the world’s most enjoyed whiskeys and one of Ireland’s leading suppliers of spirits and wines, is now in its 27th year of running the programme, which provides graduates with the opportunity to realise their personal and professional goals while working with a global Irish brand, on an international stage.

20 graduates

More than 20 graduates will be taken on for roles in markets such as France, Italy, Spain, UK, Portugal, Germany, China and Japan, where they will have a unique opportunity to develop fundamental business skills with a globally successful Irish brand.

Successful graduates are provided with the opportunity to shape their own experience supported by a competitive benefits package; a multi-award-winning training and development programme and a global support network, empowering them to hone and develop the necessary skills required to progress their career, while contributing to the global Irish whiskey success story.

To date, more than 400 graduates have completed the Jameson International Graduate Programme since it was established in 1991.

Alumni of the programme have progressed to roles internally within Irish Distillers and Pernod Ricard globally and externally across various sectors in over 33 cities around the world.

More than half of Irish Distillers’ Dublin based International Marketing Team launched their careers through the programme, and 34 percent of alumni remain within the wider company network.

Jameson is the fifth most popular graduate employer in Ireland as voted for by students and recent graduates, according to the 2018 Ireland’s 100 Leading Graduate Employers survey, published by gradireland. The Jameson International Graduate Programme accepts applicants from all disciplines, so a marketing or business background is not essential.

Applications for the 2019/20 Jameson International Graduate Programme close on Wednesday January 16, 2019 at 1pm.
