Westmeath's Killian Doyle

Killian Doyle on U21 hurling team of the year shortlist

Raharney and Westmeath hurler Killian Doyle is among the 45 players who have been nominated for a place on the Bord Gáis Energy U21 hurling team of the year.

Cork (11), Tipperary (9) and Galway (9) top the league table of nominees, with Doyle the only Westmeath name included on the list.

The DIT student, formerly of St Joseph’s, Rochfortbridge, has been in the United States for much of the summer, but was on call in mid-June as the Lake County narrowly missed out on a Leinster semi-final place, losing out 2-13 to 1-13. In a battling Westmeath display, Doyle shot 1-7 for the hosts.

Doyle is one of three nominees at left half forward in the shortlist, which was chosen by a panel of judges chaired by Bord Gáis Energy Sports Ambassador Ger Cunningham alongside Galway hurler Joe Canning, Waterford legend Ken McGrath and TG4’s Micheál Ó Domhnaill.
