Westmeath Co. Council workers are hard at work carrying out the improvements to the parking and footpaths from Hotel Castlepollard to McCormack"s. The lighting around the town will be improved and enhanced with Victorian style streetlights, and the ESB cables being laid underground. Litter is still a concern, with the ample litter bins in and around the town still being under utilised. Cigarette butts are litter, and need to be placed in the appropriate bins provided, not left on the pavements to find their own way in to the bins provided. If we all make a little extra effort, the overall improvement will be far greater, and the town"s marks will increase considerably this year.Cemetery ImprovementsParishioners are reminded that improvements to the pathways at St. Michael"s Cemetery are still ongoing for the first two weeks in July, and as such the Cemetery is closed to wheeled traffic for the period. As part of the improvements the wall between the Cemetery and Lir Park will be completed with the assistance of FAS, and gates will be installed at the gateway to the Cemetery nearest the town. Anyone wishing to make a donation towards these works may do so by contacting the Parochial Office or any Committee member.
