Hurlers head to Arklow to take on Wicklow

Christy Ring CupWestmeath hurlers continue their quest for Christy Ring Cup success next Saturday with a tricky fixture away to Wicklow. Westmeath, having won the first round against Roscommon with relative ease, will approach this game with confidence. However, they will not be afforded the chance to take their foot off the pedal the way they did against Roscommon.Westmeath had this game won at half-time with an excellent display from the forwards which will need to be re-shown again next weekend if we are to beat Wicklow, who overcame Roscommon by almost the same margin as Westmeath. Wicklow will be boosted by the return of Dom Hyland to the team and will also be expecting a big game from Jonathan O"Neill in midfield who had an excellent league campaign and his free taking ability may be a thorn in Westmeath"s side.Verdict: WestmeathFootball BoardRace EveningThe Westmeath Football Board race evening takes place on July 18 at Kilbeggan Races. This is the biggest evening meet of the year at Kilbeggan so a large turnout of Westmeath supporters would be appreciated.Tickets for this race meeting are on sale from any of the Football Board members with all monies raised going to offset training costs for the county teams. So come one and all and make this a memorable evening of sport and craic to remember.Hurling Goalkeepers" ClinicLeinster Council have organised a special goalkeepers" clinic for hurling goalkeepers of all ages. This is to be held in O"Brien Park, Tullamore on Monday, July 21 at 7.30pm. Westmeath Hurling Board will supply transport to this event depending on demand, so all you interested goalies out there register now before it"s too late.Go-Games play and stayFollowing on from a very successful Go-Games initiative for Under 8s in both football and hurling, Leinster Council have organised fantastic Play and Stay Fun Days in Croke Park. They are providing clubs (under 8) that participated in the Pay and Stay Go Games initiative in May of this year with the opportunity of playing in Croke Park. The plan is that this will become an annual event with subsequent years enabling every club the chance to play in Croke Park. There will be six pitches marked out on the field of equal size. To give small clubs a chance to be represented we"ll have 5-a-side to a maximum of 9-a-side games. This will allow us cater for varying numbers that clubs might send. The event will be run over a 7.5 hour time frame, starting at 10am and finishing at 5.30pm.WestmeathGAA DevelopmentLottoThe numbers drawn last week were 1, 24, 26 and 29.There was no jackpot winner. There were just two Match 3 winners who each receive €160.
