A Charity Tractor Run will take place on Monday next, August 4th, in aid of the Children"s Ward, Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar. The run will start at 2.00pm from D & A Moran Filling Station, Castlepollard, and will cover a 20 mile route.In addition to the Tractor Run, there are tickets on sale for a Tractor Lawn Mower as part of the fundraising effort. Your support for this very worthwhile cause will be greatly appreciated.Coffee morningA coffee morning in aid of the Children in Burma, will take place on the Parish Community Centre, Church Street, Castlepollard, on Saturday morning next, August 2nd., starting at 10.30am. There will be cakes and confectionery available, and a number of prizes. Your support will be greatly appreciated.North Westmeath Rural TransportThe North Westmeath Rural Transport Scheme, which offers transport to Mullingar for Senior Citizens and others in outlying areas, has now been extended to cover patrons travelling from Bunbrosna. The route every Friday now covers pick-up in Coole at 9.45am, The Square, Castlepollard at 10.00am, Collinstown 10.15am, Crookedwood 10.30am, Multyfarnham and Bunbrosna. The bus returns from Mullingar at 1.30pm. Senior Citizens travel free, while the charge for adults is €2, and children free. For further details concerning travel arrangements contact Christy Salmon on 044-9661042, 086-8302657.Castlepollard Credit UnionThe 2008 Summer Car Draw will be held outside the Credit Union Offices on The Square, Castlepollard, at 1.00pm on Saturday, August 2nd. The first prize is a Kia Rio (High Spec), 4 door car, and there will also be a number of substantial cash prizes. The Leaving certificate results will be out on Wednesday, August 13th, and students will be planning for third level education. The Credit Union have special loan products for students, which will ease the financial pressures of going to college. Interested members should contact the Manager by calling in to the Office or by phoning 044-9661855. Directors and Staff attended Chapter and liaison meetings recently. These meetings are attended by members from different Credit Unions in the area and problems common to all are aired and discussed. The Chapter meeting, which was held in Castlepollard, was attended by over thirty delegates, with some travelling from Ballinasloe and Portumna.Castlepollard Credit Union will celebrate 40 years in existence in 2009. The Board of Directors invite suggestions from members as to how this occasion should be marked.Summer CampCastlepollard Youth Club"s Summer Camp kicks off again on Monday 18th August to Friday 22nd August.On Monday 18th there is a trip to Loughkey Forest Pk and adventure centre Roscommon; on Wednesday 20th, to Funtasia fun and water pk Drogheda; on Friday 22nd there will be a barbecue, activities and games.Places strictly limited to 50. On Saturday, August 2nd., devotions takes place at 6.00pm in St.Peter"s, and 7.30pm in the Priest"s grave in the grounds of St. Michael"s Church, Castlepollard. On Sunday, August 3rd., devotions take place at 12.00 noon in St. Michael"s Cemetery, followed by tea and refreshments in the Parish Community Centre, Church Street, Castlepollard. Devotions take place at 3.00pm in Kilafree, 4.00pm in Lickbla, and 5.00pm in Rathgarve. Parishioners are requested to exercise care when driving into St. Michael Cemetery, as the newly upgraded paths need to be treated with care, also parishioners are requested not to drive onto the newly seeded grass areas in the Cemetery. A skip has been provided for the disposal of rubbish and detritus in the Cemetery, and not for any other rubbish.EntitlementsA representative from Mullingar"s Citizens" Information Service will attend the Library/One Stop Shop on Mullingar Road, Castlepollard, every Friday between 10.00am and 1.00pm to give advice on entitlements.North Westmeath 5k Road RaceThe annual North Westmeath 5K road Race takes place in Castlepollard on Wednesday, August 13th. The senior race takes place at 8.00pm, while the juvenile race (around The Square), starts at 7.00pm. This being Olympic year and the Olympic Games starting the preceding week, organisers are hoping for a large entry, particularly for the field for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Local Man and Woman home from the North Westmeath area. Profits from the event will be utilised to purchase equipment for local Athletics Club and Schools.Baptism Preparation CourseThe next Baptism Preparation course for parents takes place on Wednesday, August 17th, in the Parish Community Centre, Church Street, Castlepollard, at 8.00pm. The course is being run by the Multy group. Parents who do not have a babysitter may bring baby with them to the meeting.Alcoholics AnonymousA meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous takes place every Tuesday in Room One, the Parish Community Centre, Church Street, at 8.30pm.
