Going Cuckoo for Charity!

With a headlining gig at the Electric Picnic Festival in the offing at the end of August, Mullingar"s Rail Theatre Company have hit the jackpot with their production of Ken Kesey and Dale Wassermann"s epic play, One Flew Over the Cuckoo"s nest. This iconic piece of the theatre world has thrilled audiences in Monaghan, Dundalk, Kilmallock and Macroom, as well as playing to sell out houses in the Arts Centre in Mullingar. On Wednesday, August 27 however, it will be performed again in the Arts Centre, but this time it is all in aid of a very worthy cause with all proceeds going to a local girl who suffers from Freidrichs Ataxia disease. This debilitating disease causes a complete breakdown of the body"s organs eventually, and in Ireland there are only a few cases, one of which is a young girl from Mullingar. The company have made the conscious decision to make life that little bit easier for her during her illness and to that end, they will stage the play one more time in Mullingar. If you haven"t seen the production, now is your chance, and even if you have, then you are urged to come again as this time - it means more than just an evening of entertainment. This time the proceeds of your attendance will be put to good use by a member of the community who needs your help.Although the cast are all ultra excited about the Electric Picnic gig, they too are thoroughly looking forward to putting the show on in such circumstances and want to make this an extra special evening for all concerned. Anyone who has seen the play will tell you about the emotional rollercoaster that the plot takes you on, and it certainly is one not to be missed, especially with the added cause that it represents. There is simply no excuse why the Mullingar public in general should not get behind this extremely worthy endeavour.Tickets are available at the Arts Centre Box office and from any member of the cast and my advice is to get them quick! The show starts at 8pm on Wednesday, August 27.
