Open Singles Stableford
On Sunday last the men"s open singles took place in beautiful weather. The early players had to contend with a little fog but the sun soon appeared and a lovely autumn day followed in which excellent golf was played.Among the early leaders were Camillus McCauley, Michael Flynn, Pat Rogers and Frank Grehan. Meantime out on the course was David Gavigan, playing alongside Kieran McGurran, our Handicap Sec. Despite having had a recent snip from the handicap scissors, David was undeterred and continued to build up a decent score under the watchful eye of the handicapper. The only time he will see 15 again will be on a door, was a comment made after he finished with 44 points to take first place. Jim Baker and John Lynch are to be commended on their efforts in stewarding the busy day"s competition which saw almost 30 visitors, including the two Meehan brothers who were past members. John was back to collect all our wayward golf balls. The stewards for next Sunday are Liam Scally and Seanie O"Connor.International PairsJohn and Hugh McCarthy represented Castle Barna recently in Knightsbrook in the International Pairs competition and had no success on the day. We wish Captain"s prizewinner, Aidan Rogers and our captain, Noel Mooney the best of luck on Friday next in Portmarnock G.C.Next WeekNext Sunday an Open Fourball takes place and this is also any combination, so get your names on the sheet which is available in the clubhouse, 0579353384 by phone and online booking is now available on www.castlebarna.ieThursday OpenBeginning on Thursday, November 6 is an 18 hole open single stableford in which there is tremendous interest.
