Singles stableford results
Last Sunday the singles stableford competition at Castle Barna took place in largely fine conditions but with a strong wind which picked up strength as the day progressed. With the course very soft from Saturday"s rain winter rules were invoked and it looks as if that was the end of 'summer'.Michael Treacy hasn"t been on the winners" list for some time and it was nice to see him just tip the scales in his favour with a better back 9 over Pat Maguire who is an early starter. As the wind increased to gale force in the afternoon, scores were being eroded on the back nine and Stephen Egan Sen. who had turned with a very good 23 points failed to capitalize on it and finished with 37. However had he been fortunate enough to be in a different category he would have had a prize with the same score.Steve Comerford and Brian Morgan in Cat 3 and 4 secured prizes with 37 pointsPast captain Ger Hynes has made a welcome and successful comeback to Sunday"s competitions to lead Cat 2 on 39 points. Ballinagar man Shane Scally had 40 points to take Cat 1 prize.Next weekNext Sunday"s competition is a fourball betterball and the stewards are Martin Brady and Seamus Feery.SeniorsThe seniors competition continues as always on Tuesday mornings at 9 to 10 am and those over 50"s who have not yet participated should go along and join the fun golf that is enjoyed by so many each week .
