Matt Leavy appears in the Greville Arms
The Athboy native, Matt Leavy is coming to the Greville Arms Hotel on Tuesday, November 11. Matt hails from a very musical family, particularly on his father"s side, with such talents as his brothers John and Paul Leavy, who are very busy on local scene.Matt started at the age of 17 playing in bands in his local area of the east midlands, including Meath, Louth, Cavan and Dublin. Matt finally got the big break on the famous Bibi Baskin show on RTÉ in November 1989 which catapulted him into national fame all over Ireland. It was then that Matt met the infamous Sandy Kelly, and as a result of this great fortune, he was asked to sign a record deal with k-tel record company.Matt recorded the album 'Love Hurts' which became popular on all the radio stations in Ireland and the UK, and then saw Matt forming a six piece band, when he toured Ireland and the UK with for four years, during which he played support with Buck Owens and Johnny Cash.He visited Nashville and sang on the very popular Ernest Tubb show. Matt has been to Nashville many times since and at present, he is still very popular on the local scene in the east midlands doing his one-man show, but also plays regularly with Charlie Arkins and Oldstagecoach.Matt has just recorded his brand new cd 'Paint the town' which is already a big hit with the radio djs. He was delighted when George Hamilton offered to feature on one of the tracks on his new cd. Matt is now touring with Sandy Kelly and George Hamilton with their country concerts which Matt is featured doing Jim Reeves and Glen Campbell selections.He will be playing solo in the Greville Arms, Mullingar on Tuesday, be sure not to miss him!
